Our Services

Our goal at Oak Knoll is simple; to make sure that your pet’s health is the best it can be. We do everything we can to ensure that happens in the hospital and at home. We will ensure that your pets receive the most current veterinary treatments available today, and we’ll provide you with the information you need to better care for your pets at home.

We offer many state of the art services right at the clinic, we partner with the local veterinarian specialty community when needed. Learn more about some of our services below

Cold Laser Therapy

Does your pet suffer from stiff, sore joints, or have a hotspot or other slow-healing wound?  Oak Knoll Animal Hospital is excited to offer a state-of-the-art treatment for reducing pain and inflammation, the cold laser.  Cold laser therapy uses a wavelength of light that penetrates deep tissues to reduce inflammation, to ease pain and promote healing.  It can also be used to manage more superficial inflammation in the skin, ears or gums.  Treatments are safe and painless.  So, whether your pet has painful joints or a hotspot, ask us today to see how this exciting technology might help.

Wellness Care

The importance of wellness care cannot be overstated. Many ailments that affect your pet may not be noticed right away, and waiting until there is a problem will reduce the change of effective treatment.  Because of this, when you bring your pet in to be vaccinated we will perform a full physical examination. Our doctors will assess heart, lungs, joint mobility, skin and coat condition. We will also discuss changes in your pet’s habits. We also ask that you bring a sample of your pet’s feces in with you to be examined for intestinal parasites at least once a year, and when diarrhea occurs.

If you have a senior pet (dogs over seven years old and cats over ten years old) we offer comprehensive blood panels that are specifically designed for older pets. Ask us about senior care when you make your appointment.

Diagnostics

Our pets are adept at hiding illnesses and injuries they may have. Because of this, we use state of the art laboratory equipment to get an inside picture of what your pet isn’t showing on the outside. In our in-house laboratory, we perform tests on blood, urine and feces obtaining same day results. For tests that we don’t run in house, we use a reference lab.

For our surgical patients, we perform on site blood work to check liver and kidney function before administering anesthesia.

Dental Care

Most people don’t realize the impact that an infected mouth has on their pet. Gingivitis and periodontal disease are even more common in pets than in people, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it from looking at them. The teeth we routinely see are the canines and incisors in the front of the mouth. These teeth may appear clean and healthy while the less visible molars may harbor infection. Infected teeth and gums can cause pockets to develop which can lead to tooth root abscesses. The bacteria can then spread, via the blood-stream, to other parts of the body.

When your pet is brought in for a dental cleaning, the teeth will be cleaned with an ultrasonic scater that removes tartar and the bacteria. We will examine the gum-line and check for pockets that may have developed between the gum and teeth. We polish the teeth and apply a sealant to help prevent future dental disease. If there is significant decay or bone loss aroudn the roots, we surgically extract the affected teeth.

Digital X-Ray

OKAH is proud to offer digital radiography. This state-of-the-art technology allows us to take and process X-ray images in-house, in a matter of minutes. With improved speed and image quality, digital x-rays improve our ability to diagnose and treat critical patients quickly. It also allows us to forward images to specialists for second opinions, as needed.

Laser Surgery

We utilize a CO2 laser for many surgical procedures performed at the clinic. Advantages of using a CO2 laser include:

Less Pain: The laser seals nerve endings as it “cuts.” As a result, your pet will experience less pain and be more comfortable post-operatively.

Less Bleeding: The laser seals small blood vessels during surgery. This speeds many procedures, reducing the time your pet needs to be under anesthesia which further reduces possible complications.

Less Swelling: Laser energy does not crush, tear or bruise tissue because the only thing that touches your pet is an invisible beam of light.

Reduced risk of infection: As the laser removes diseased tissue, it seals the skin and reduces the amount of bacteria present.

Quick return to normal activity: Healing is rapid and there is less post-operative discomfort to allow better healing.

Specialty Surgeries

A Golden Retriever Dog Running on Grass FieldThe doctors at Oak Knoll perform most routine, soft tissue surgeries, including spay, neuter, mass removals, dentistry, and bladder surgery. We also partner with a group of board-certified surgeons, Twin Cities Veterinary Surgery, to handle our orthopedics, as well as complicated, soft tissue surgeries.
